AIO Board of Directors to Visit Lawton, Comanche Nation College

LAWTON, September 25, 2012 — Americans for Indian Opportunity (AIO) will hold its annual Board of Directors meeting on Friday, September 28, 2012, at the Comanche Nation College in Lawton, OK.

AIO’s board consists of leaders and activists from Native American and Indigenous communities from around the world, including members of AIO’s sister organization in New Zealand, Advancement of Maori Opportunity (AMO). Among the AIO board members traveling to Lawton are AMO President Bentham Ohia and Vice President Kate Cherrington. The trip will mark the first time in AIO and AMO’s nine-year partnership that AMO members will visit the hometown of LaDonna Harris (Comanche), President and Founder of AIO.

“AIO is proud to bring a large group of the AIO family home to Lawton, and we are delighted that the Comanche Nation College so generously agreed to host us,” said AIO Executive Director Laura Harris (Comanche).

AIO’s board meets once a year to review the nonprofit organization’s projects, activities, and financial standing, and to discuss AIO’s overall direction. While in Lawton, AIO board members will meet with Comanche Nation Chairman Wallace Coffey and network with local tribal leaders.

The meeting will precede the 21st Annual Comanche Nation Fair. Members of the AIO board will attend fair activities on Saturday, September 29, 2012, including the parade, in which LaDonna Harris will participate.
